The Central Community College softball team headed down to Florida for "The Spring Games," the world's largest college softball event. There they played 7 games starting with Mott CC on March 7th. A recap of the all Florida games is below:
Game 1: Mott CC- 8 Central- 1
The Raiders dropped their Florida opener to the Mott Bears in an 8-1 decision at the Diamond Plex. Lextyn Harker provided the offensive highlight for the Raiders, finishing 1-for-2 and scoring the team's lone run, while Danica Taylor added a hard-hit double in the fourth. Harker earned the start on the rubber and was tagged with the loss before Logan Rainforth entered in relief during the seventh inning to navigate a tough Bears rally.
Game 2: RCTC- 2 Central- 10
The Raiders roared back to the win column on Sunday, dominating the RCTC Yellowjackets in a decisive 10-2 victory. Taylor sparked the offense with a 2-for-2 performance including a double, while Bella Larsen delivered the final blow with a two-RBI single to seal the win in the sixth. On the mound, Callen Heule was stellar, earning the win after pitching a complete game and effectively neutralizing the Yellowjackets' bats throughout the contest.
Game 3: Mid Michigan College- 1 Central- 8
The Raiders kept their winning streak alive on Sunday afternoon with a commanding 8-1 victory over the Mid Michigan College Lakers. Kloey Johnson led the offensive charge, racking up three RBIs highlighted by a bases-clearing triple in the first inning, while Taylor fueled the rally with a pair of doubles. On the mound, Rainforth earned the win with a dominant complete-game performance. This well-rounded effort saw the Raiders out-hit the Lakers 11 to 6, securing their second win of the day.
Game 4: Mid Michigan College- 7 Central- 5
In a tightly contested rematch on Monday, the Raiders fell just short in a 7-5 battle against the Mid Michigan College Lakers. Larsen was a force at the plate, finishing the day 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored, while Heule contributed significantly with three RBIs on a pair of sacrifice flies. Harker started the game on the mound and was credited with the loss, while Heule provided long relief to keep the Raiders within striking distance until the final frame. Despite a late two-run surge in the seventh inning, Central couldn't quite overcome an early deficit.
Game 5: Kishwaukee- 6 Central- 3
The Central Community College Raiders fought through a tough defensive outing on Monday, ultimately falling 6-3 to the Kishwaukee Kougars at the Diamond Plex. Rainforth led the Raiders' late-inning rally, finishing the game with a clutch RBI triple, while Jordyn Trotta provided consistent offense with two hits and two RBIs. Harker started the game on the mound and was tagged with the loss before Rainforth came in for relief to shut down the Kougars over the final four frames. Despite out-hitting Kishwaukee 8 to 7, the Raiders were unable to overcome early defensive miscues that allowed the Kougars to jump out to a quick lead.
Game 6: SUNY Erie- 4 Central- 12
The Central Community College Raiders unleashed a dominant offensive performance on Wednesday, cruising to a 12-4 victory over SUNY Erie. Larsen and Taylor fueled the scoring barrage, with both Raiders connecting for triples to drive the early momentum. Trotta also sparked the lineup, finishing with two hits and two RBIs as the team capitalized on consistent pressure and opportunistic base running. On the rubber, Harker earned the win.
Game 7: TRI-C- 1 Central- 2
The Central Community College Raiders closed out their road trip with a thrilling 2-1 defensive battle against TRI-C on Wednesday. Rainforth provided the heroics at the plate, delivering a clutch fifth-inning single that forced a pair of errors and allowed both Larsen and Heule to cross the plate for the lead. Rainforth was equally dominant in the circle, earning the win with a complete-game masterpiece where she racked up seven strikeouts while scattering six hits. This gritty performance highlighted the Raiders' composure under pressure as they held off a late TRI-C threat to secure the narrow victory.
Head coach Caitlin Simon said this, "Overall, we saw good things and finished on a high note in Florida. Errors are going to happen but we have to be better and bouncing back faster and not allow them to be big innings for other teams. As you can see in our last day in Florida if we do the small things and routine things defensively, we can play with anyone."
The Raiders move to 8-7 and are back in Columbus, NE safely after a travel day on March 14th. They take on Iowa Lakes CC on March 18th at home at 2 and 4pm.
